If ever a band deserved its success, it’s Future Islands.
For more than 10 years, the Baltimore band made up of three best friends has been refining its sound on album after album and show after show, which is no small feat when you leave as much blood on the stage as frontman Samuel Herring does. The band will bring its sound to The StubHub Music Experience at the South by Southwest Music Festival on March 17.
Last year they finally struck gold with Singles, a powerhouse electro-pop album so flawlessly executed it earned them an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman, where Herring’s unforgettable performance of “Seasons” blew Dave right out of his seat (click here to see it). The clip quickly went viral, triggering a well-deserved surge in the band’s popularity.
Despite their meteoric rise last year, Herring (above, center) remains humble about the his group’s success, and his music taste is as eclectic as ever. Here are five bands that are currently rocking his world.
