Portugal. The Man have been on the scene for over a decade, having released seven albums that show off a wide array of influences, from disco to funk to punk. Currently logging time in Ruck Rubin’s Shangri La Studios recording with the Beastie Boys’ Mike D, the band may or may not be adding hip-hop to the mix, Founding bassist Zach Carothers is quick to note, “We’ll never go full hip-hop.”
But based on this list of acts Carothers told us he’s currently inspired by, we’re anxious to find out just how close to “full hip-hop” PTM might get.
Run the Jewels
Kendrick Lamar and Drake

Portugal. The Man will headline the first night of shows at the StubHub Music Experience at the South by Southwest Music Festival on March 17. Catch the complete lineup here.
